2nd Grade Sculpture: Shapes in Architecture Medium: Poster Board, Cardboard, Crayon, Acrylic Paint,

These buildings were so fun! However, they took quite a bit of time to complete. Being that our 2nd grade class was given thirty minutes twice a week, it took us close to seven weeks to complete them. In our Unit we discussed line and shape. I had each student draw a blue print of their building. Once we completed them we began by drawing and cutting out the same building two times on poster board. The students were expected to color them as desired. Once we finished them, each student was given "sides" (rectangles) to their building and they were expected to color them the same color as their buildings. The students were given a thick cardboard base. I demonstrated how we would glue the buildings together and on to the base. After the demonstration, I walked around and helped the students individually with their buildings. After all of the buildings were secured, the students were instructed to paint the bases as the envioronment or ground of which the building was sitting. They LOVED this project and it was so neat to see the blue prints hanging beside the actual buildings in the display. I was very proud of these projects!
