4th Grade Birch Trees Medium: Acrylic Paint

We studied the art works of Gustav Klimt and his birch trees. The students began by putting down strips of masking tape to outline the placement of their birch trees. From there, they began to paint (acrylic) the sky and landscape of fall leaves using a pointillism type approach to covering the background of their piece. When dried, the students lifted the masking tape. They were very excited to see the outlines of the trees which they had created. They filled the birch trees with details that we had studied in Klimts work, using brown and black acrylic paint. These pieces were time consuming but very much worth the time and effort put into them. They were wonderful!
